@Kameron Kidd was able to chat with Maggie and ask some questions
Maggie some may know that you’ve been with Cvent in the past. Can you share some inight about yourself and your career?
I’ve been lucky enough to work in event technology for a while now, and I love how it’s always evolving. My career path started with a BA in Communications from Loyola University Chicago. From there, I worked in video and film production, and eventually moved into corporate event management at a Fortune 500 computer products company. After that, I segued into contract Event Planning, mostly in the non-profit and contract spaces.
When the pandemic hit in 2020, I decided to take advantage of Cvent’s free certification program. It felt like the perfect chance to strengthen my skills and expand my knowledge. Not long after, I watched Reggie Aggarwal’s “Golden Age of Events” keynote at Cvent Connect, which really inspired me. Motivated, I joined Cvent’s Professional Services team as a 360Team End-to-End Project Manager, working on virtual, hybrid, and onsite evens. The fast pace, working with such a creative and talented team, mentoring, and learning something new every day made it one of the most enjoyable and rewarding parts of my career.
Quite an amazing career path that you’ve been on, and I know people here at Cvent always get excited to hear your name. Can you tell us about your current role?
Last summer I brought my experience to Affiliated Distributors (AD), as an Event Technology Specialist, supporting a team that plans 70 events a year. I’ve helped optimize their use of the software to streamline processes, reduce costs, increase revenue, improve data, resolve pain-points, upskill the team, and elevate the attendee and sponsor experience. Our team uses Cvent tools like Sourcing, Registration, Appointments, branded Mobile App, Surveys, OnArrival, and Event in a Box. This year we will be adding Lead Capture to our tool kit to make the sponsor-attendee engagement event more valuable. It’s been great to see their success after taking the leap, and being part of such a talented team has made the process even more fulfilling.
Do you have a favorite event or venue that you’ve organized or been to? If so, please tell us a little about it and add any pictures so we can all live through you vicariously!
Caneel Bay, St. John was such a special place. Developed by the Rockefellers, it was part of the Virgin Islands National Park, so it felt wonderfully remote. The beaches were pristine, the water was a stunning turquoise, and turtles wandered freely around the property. What really stood out, though, was the staff’s attention to detail. For example, they created sewing kits with threads that matched guests’ clothes. Sadly, the resort was damaged in a hurricane, but I’ve heard it might be restored soon, which would be amazing.

Looks and sounds like a beautiful destination, hopefully it can be operational again in the near future. What is your favorite Cvent feature and why?
I have to say, I love the Attendee Hub and Mobile Event App. It’s awesome for helping attendees navigate events and engage more, plus it’s great for cutting down on paper waste. I get a lot of enjoyment out of customizing each app, helping attendees use it onsite, and even troubleshooting when things go wrong. Honestly, I love a good challenge—it’s like solving a fun puzzle.
For those just starting with Cvent or transitioning into an Event Technology Specialist role, what are the most important skills or knowledge areas they should focus on to be successful?
If you’re just getting started with Cvent, the Event Management Certification is a great place to begin. It’s super logical and easy to follow at your own pace, and it even includes assessments to make sure you’ve got the hang of things. After that, I’d recommend the Advanced Certification and the Attendee Hub/Mobile App Certification. Cvent also has an amazing library of on-demand training that’s helpful at any level. And if you ever get stuck, don’t forget about “Valerie,” the chatbot—she’s a lifesaver for quick questions!
While technology isn’t perfect and it has its limits, having an open mind and some creativity can go a long way to getting solutions. There is often more than one way to build a site or resolve a problem, so patience and curiosity are important.
What trends do you see emerging in the event technology space, and how are you preparing to leverage these trends in your future events?
- Artificial Intelligence (AI): AI is changing the game for event planning. It’s automating tasks, making data analysis easier, and even helping attendees connect based on shared interests.
- Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR): AR and VR are making events more immersive with virtual exhibits, interactive demos, and even fun simulated environments.
- Sustainability: More events are focusing on reducing paper, energy use, and waste, which is great for the planet and a growing priority for planners.
What’s Next for You?
I’m excited to keep supporting AD’s Meeting & Events team as we grow and evolve. I’m especially looking forward to diving into new technologies like AI to keep innovating and improving the event experience. It’s been amazing to collaborate with such a great team, and I’m grateful for the chance to make an impact here.
