  • 1.  How are blanks handle in filter resutls

    Posted 05-28-2025 15:20

I've gotten mixed results recently when i've applied filters/operators in the advanced searches I swear used to be different. Mainly how blank values are concerned.

According to our AI assistant I am getting conflicting information :

Blank fields are handled differently depending on the logical operator used in the filters:

    • Equals: Blank fields will not match any value, so they will not appear in the results.
    • Does not equal: Blank fields will appear in the results as they do not match any specific value.
    • Contains/Includes: Blank fields will not appear as they do not contain any part of the value.
    • Does not contain/Excludes: Blank fields will appear since they do not contain any value.
    • Starts with: Blank fields will not appear as they do not start with any value.
    • Blank/empty: Specifically filters to display fields that are blank or empty.
    • Not blank/empty: Filters to display fields that have any value, excluding blank fields.

    I then asked more specifically:

Blanks do not appear when using the "does not equal yes" operator because this operator filters out fields that match the specified value exactly.

When using advanced filters, the "does not equal" operator excludes any field that contains the exact value specified. Therefore, if a field is blank, it does not match any value, including "yes," and will not be included in the search results.

To include blank fields in your search results, you may need to use a different operator, such as "Blank/empty," which specifically targets fields that have no value assigned.

The second answer seems to be the case now. Support person backed that up and it is the result I'm getting but have i been hallucinating? Didn't it work like what the AI said the first time?

In my experience, "Does Not Equal" required the complete answer value that you did not want included. You could not put a part of a word or phrase in the value because it has to be exact.
