Yes, Audience Segments have become much more commonplace in our event builds during the past six months, for many of uses mentioned above. In addition, it really is a better way to manage known staff visibility groupings; as opposed to having to create additional invitation lists, Admission Items, and use additional reg. types to associate the elements just to limit which staff can see what sessions. We also have used Audience Segments to display custom messaging on the ipads during check-in through Kiosk mode. It is super-fast to create and implement--much like those Event App notifications Mike referenced.

Subject: How do you use audience segments?
I use Audience Segments for so many things: controlling session visibility, managing invitation lists, sending specific registration emails, and determining what prints on attendee badges. The list keeps growing!
For sessions, I use a segment to control who can see the session. I can also add the session directly to the agendas of attendees in that segment.
This year, we changed some registration paths and created an Audience Segment based on an answer to a registration question. Attendees in that segment receive a different registration confirmation email.
Advanced Rules under Registration have been helpful for us, too.
