Hi Lindsey,
Hope you're well!
Great question! Let me clear this up - and the short answer is: French does not automatically translate on its own. You'll need to upload your translations, but the good news is the process is straightforward. Here's everything you need to know.
What Gets Automatically Translated (No Action Needed)
Cvent automatically handles the translation of all default system text - things like button labels, form field labels, error messages, and standard validation messages. You don't need to provide anything for these.
What You Need to Upload
Anything your team has written custom - your website page copy, registration questions, session names, fee names, the event title, data tags, and terms and conditions - is not automatically translated. This is where your French copy comes in.
How to Upload Your Translations
Everything happens inside Language Management, which you can find by going to Marketing → Language Management in your event. Here's the step-by-step:
-
Export the translation file - In Language Management, select French, then hover over Actions and click Export. This downloads a pre-formatted spreadsheet with all your translatable text already listed, including a column for you to enter your French copy.
-
Fill in your translations - Open the file in Excel. Do not delete or reorder the first row (those are the column headers). Enter your French translations in the Custom Text or Display Text column next to each piece of English text.
-
Save the file - Save it as a .txt, .xls, or .xlsx file.
-
Import it back into Cvent - In Language Management, go back to French, hover over Actions, and click Import. Browse for your file, click Open, and follow the prompts to finish.
One Thing to Keep in Mind
If you have any copy that was added using a text widget directly in the Site Designer (custom rich text blocks on your web pages), those translations cannot be imported via the spreadsheet - that's a Cvent limitation. For those, you'll need to enter the French text manually by going into Language Management → French → Translations and updating each one directly on screen.
Once your translations are uploaded, attendees who toggle to French will see your custom French copy - not a machine-generated translation.
