    Hello,

Each time we get a new customer they are given a number of free tickets to our event for the first year. The number they receive is based on their size - one, two, or three. We often have customers that will use their free tickets and then send at least one other person too. We are struggling with how to set up the discount codes for this. In years past we have sent them a code and asked them to register the free people separately using that code. Then to register all paid people. So this allowed us to set up the discount code to take 100% off. The problem is that last year we had a few customers that realized it was not a hard stop at the set number of free tickets and therefore registered all of their people using the code. We ultimately gave away a number of free tickets that we did not plan for.

Does anyone know of a way to set up a discount code so that it would work as follows:

    • Customer has 2 free tickets, they register 2 people and pay $0
    • Customer has 2 free tickets, they register 1 person and pay $0
    • Customer has 2 free tickets, they register 3 people and pay $425 (the price of 1 ticket)

If I have to set up separate discount codes for each customer that is fine. I would rather do that than have a bunch of free tickets used that shouldn't be. Any help with streamlining this process would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi Maggie,

I would create a discount code for each company that can only be used once. In your example, set the discount code amount to $850 (value of 2 free tickets); don't use a percentage. If they register one person, it will show $0 due; 2 people, $0 due; 3 people, they'll be charged $425.

Thank you for the suggestions on how to do what we need. I will be testing this out when we work on setting up our even next month. I think this may work for what we need.

You might take a look at using payment credits and see if that would work for you.

Thanks, Kim. I appreciate the info. I had never thought about payment credits so I will be sure to check this out. I am not sure that it will work for what we need regarding this issue, but it definitely will help solve another issue we have had in the past and will most likely have this year.
