Why isn't the mobile phone field in phone number format? Or am I missing the place where I can control that?

I haven't seen a way to for mobile numbers to be formatted in a particular way.

I end up exporting the phone number, formatting the way I want to importing back.

I do see that you can have a text question, answer format: Phone Number.

I believe the reason they haven't enforced formatting on the phone number fields is in case of international numbers? But as Steven noted, you can do a custom phone number field from the text question if you know you won't have any.

We ran into this issue for a virtual event this week.  We asked for the mobile number in registration so the 6-digit registration code could be texted to them to access the attendee hub.  Many in Europe did not include their country code which caused some access issues.

It looks like the mobile phone field isn't automatically formatted in phone number format. Depending on the platform you're using, there may be a setting or a field type that you need to enable or configure to display the phone numbers correctly.

If you're working with Cvent or a similar platform, you can typically adjust the field settings under the form or registration setup section. You may want to check if there's an option to specify the field as a "phone number" type, which will automatically format the input.
