Hi Rachel!
While there's not a way to directly filter a planner alert based on whether a discount code was used (good feedback though!) - you can create a Registration planner alert for when a registration is accepted, then use an advanced filter on the amount ordered. This way, if the graduate students will be able to take the courses at no cost, you can set the advanced filter for Amount Ordered Equals 0. Just to note - if there will be other registrants paying the same amount as the students, you'll receive alerts for these as well so keep an eye out for those if others have an equivalent discount code.

Subject: Planner Alert for Specific Discount Codes
Our university department plans events and webinars for community professionals, but several of our graduate students have expressed an interest in taking these courses as well. I have created a discount code for them, but I would like to receive an alert when they register to double-check their status as full-time students, especially as the individual who requested this allowance would like to share the opportunity with other students. Given that these discounted events are webinars, there is no reason to cap and no reason for him not to share the opportunity.
