My event needs to register teams of 3 for a single price of $2000. The lead registrant also needs to be able to add additional single registrants for $700 per additional person. How can I build my registration to facilitate this?

One potential solution for this setup would be to utilize the ability to Limit Guests by Admission Items. The way I would picture this working would be to have at least three registration types: one for the primary registrant, Complimentary Guest, and Additional Guest (or whatever naming convention you'd like). The primary registrant would have an admission item with the $2000 fee, with a limit of 3 Complimentary Guests, and some arbitrarily large number of Additional Guests. These two guest types would have a single admission item with a $0 fee associated to the Complimentary Guest registration type, and a $700 fee for the Additional Guest registration type (Adding and Updating Fees). 

A similar setup could be achieved using Group Registration as well. In the registration path settings, you could "Limit registration types available for group members" and limit the types to Complimentary Guest and Additional Guest, and set the capacity of Complimentary Guests to 3, preventing the group leader from adding any more than 3 comp guests.
