How do I use data tags in registration questions to report on in a cross event report?

I have created custom registration questions because I like the sub-question feature, but they are questions that will need to be reported on in all of the events I do. I have added the appropriate data tags to them, but when I run the cross-event report, the data i have entered in those fields won't populate. Help?

To analyze responses of questions across multiple events in Custom Cross-Event Reports, you will use Question Tags to do so. You can associate the question tag to the question, and then add the tags to a report.
