Gift Certificates?

  • 1.  Gift Certificates?

    Hello community.

I am curious as to whether Cvent has a resource to utilize that is/acts like gift certificates for anyone to purchase and then event registrants can apply towards registration fees.
    Any insight is much appreciated.

@Nathan Brickbealer, that is a GREAT IDEA.

I have not done it myself, BUT I have used discount codes in Cvent. Perhaps you could generate specific discount codes and place them in a digital (Word doc) gift certificate template as a deliverable. I don't think the certificate functionality will work in this case. One would have to register first, which defeats the purpose.

Perhaps you could structure these as Optional Items and use a data tag code to allow people to purchase "gift certificates" during registration. The trick here is to figure out how to send a specific registration confirmation email with the code for the discount (data tag) to only the people that purchased the fee.

Maybe set it up as a "session" object with a fee? And use a session registration email (that would be specific) to email an event-level discount code to the person that purchased the certification (registered for the session with the fee to purchase the discount)?

Looking at the above, I think my suggestions may involve too much complexity.

I am looking forward to hearing how others have implemented this.

I know that for CventConnect, I "cash in" points in Cvent Celebrity to get a discount on CventConnect registration, and then one of the Celebrity Admins sends me a code. Manual email process.

I hope this sparks some discussion!

    Hi Nathan,

A discount code set to deduct a specific amount, as Brenda suggested, could do the trick.

Another option would be to take advantage of the Payment Credits feature: see at the bottom how you could manually give your attendees credits to spend toward any event. https://support.cvent.com/apex/CommunityArticle?id=000002506&Lang=en_US&searchTerm=refund%20options

Now that flex works with payment credits, payment credits or a discount code would both work.

Discount code can be event specific or for any event. I believe payment credits can be used with any event.

Since I don't trust people with discount codes in that they may share with others, I automatically apply the discount based on a filter.
For instance, I'll create a discount based on source ID or a custom contact or internal field.
Anyone who I have labeled as BOARD gets 100% discount on specific sessions.
Staff gets 100% discount based on our email domain.

It looks like your question has already been answered, but that is my suggestion as well - you can use discount codes for this purpose. However, I am intrigued by the Payment Credit suggestion - you wouldn't necessarily even have to use Cvent to purchase the gift certificates - you could make your own purchase portal (or use an existing one) in which you require the name and email address of who is receiving the credit - and then "fund" their Cvent account using the Payment Credit option.
