- How has your role adapted to the rise of event technology in our environment today?
- Do you consider yourself an event technologist or a different role?
I had to pivot to virtual in 7 weeks and amp up my game as an event technologist. I also had to educate both colleagues and my attendees on the shift in paradigm from onsite to virtual. That is a huge mindshift, and one that takes a long time, and is filled with disbelief and inexperience on the part of those whom I'm trying to convince to do things differently.
Marketing the tools, changes in paradigm, and best practices has been a huge challenge.
I made up my own title years ago:
Event Architect. I am an event technologist, as well as a marketer, an educator, and a project manager responsible for the budget, branding, swag decisions, surveying and reporting, speaker training, getting my team to complete tasks on time and under budget while maintaining high quality, and ultimately, I am responsible for the success or failure of an event.
I am also now advising more and more other companies, those that I don't work for, to help them understand what virtual tools they well need and, more importantly, how they will need to change their processes.

Happy Monday! We're back with the next Huddle of the Week discussion.
We know this new era of events has brought a lot of change to your role, whether you are an event planner, event marketer, third-party planner, or other position. With the pivot to virtual, and now the new approach of the return to in-person and hybrid events, your role has likely leaned heavily on the event technology more than ever before.
It's led to event professionals understanding meetings and technology at the same level of depth, and taking on new technical responsibilities or evolving your career in a way that you may not have foreseen.
This has been an extremely interesting impact for all in the industry, so we'd like to hear firsthand from you:
