I just recently read about this, but by the time I was reading all the info, I decided it wasn't necessary. Instead, we are using custom URLs (bit.ly or similar) in our emails and social media, so the result is fairly the same. It's not as specific, but it's enough for us and the extra step to create the code and place it in each event leaves a lot of room for human error (cloning an event and forgetting to update the code).
