Will in-person events or hybrid be the future of the meetings & events industry?

  • 1.  Will in-person events or hybrid be the future of the meetings & events industry?

    Posted 08-16-2021 10:55

Hello and happy Monday! Let's start this week off strong with our next Huddle of the Week discussion. First, let's be ready to look into the future – think 2022 and beyond. Our industry has continued to adapt since 2020 and has exemplified non-stop perseverance, and honestly it has been incredible to see. We know we can't predict the future, but based on your experiences and how your organization has adapted thus far, what do you expect your total events program to look like in 2022?

Do you expect a full return to in-person? Do you expect hybrid to remain? Bringing all of these questions together:

    • Will in-person events be the highlight for 2022 or will hybrid events continue to be the future of the meetings & events industry?
    • If you are a supplier, what have you heard from your event professional peers, and how is your property preparing for 2022?

Let us know your thoughts below! #HuddleoftheWeek #VoiceIt

With all the uncertainty swirling around us, well we are only planning virtual events through 2022.

Currently my company has about 6 programs that will be in person on location in various countries. We are hoping that we can continue to go full steam ahead with these programs and can continue this progress with going back to in person events through 2022!

I think that hybrid will be gaining importance mostly content wise. The virtual component of any in-person event will have a longer "live" that the event itself.
I'm working in hybrid events with different approaches in terms of settings and i strongly believe that hybrid might be the future.

Hybrid events are here to stay. After all they are aren't really new. I think how we produce them will continue to improve and how we elevate the experience of the attendees will continue to improve.

I have to go back to the Session I spoke in at #CventConnect 2021: How to Create a Highly Effective Exhibitor Center to Maximize Traffic and Value.

All events moving forward will likely have a digitization component.

"When the numbers count, it is hard to ignore the virtual component." ~Kerry Plowman, product manager, Exhibitor Portal (and related tools).

I think events will continue to have a hybrid component. And think about the opportunities to have Exhibitors have virtual booths, bring content to virtual attendees (as well as in-person attendees) and to market content for 90 days, further monetizing the event!

For the early part of 2021, we still had fully virtual meetings. As we are heading into the latter part of the year, we are moving into hybrid meetings and looking towards hybrid meetings for our events for 2022.

We are expecting that we will continue with virtual events only, but may be open to hybrid or in-person depending on the health climate.

In-person will be the future. When Covid is behind us people will want to meet in person. What happened with flying is a good example. Some much pent up demand and now flying is crazy busy. Full flights and huge lines at airports everyday. We are not moving to Hybrid. Too much additional cost and resources. It is like planning two separate events and who has the resources for that.

    • Will in-person events be the highlight for 2022 or will hybrid events continue to be the future of the meetings & events industry? We'll still be doing lots of virtual but also returning to in person however those in-person will more than likely not be 'hybrid'

Virtual events allow people from around the globe - as well as those who may not be able to take off work or have parental duties - to attend the event.

If you had asked me in summer of 2020 I would have said that hybrid events are the way of the future, but now, December 2021, I feel that people are so zoom-weary that in-person events will be larger than ever.

    Hello,

My perspective is a bit different because I work for a union and our content is planning-committee led. Right now, our members are eager to go back in-person and 2022 looks like a fully in-person calendar of conferences. My intuition is that, once the zoom fatigue has faded, they will look at attendance numbers in-person vs virtual and will reintroduce virtual events in the 2023 calendar.
Hybrid is not an option for us budget-wise, so we'll have to be creative with asynchronous content for the virtual audience.

    Cheers,
