Thanks. Ends up that the optional works out better for most of our sessions so that ended up okay. The character limitation on the description and the fact that you can't import the abstract fields into the description are somewhat limiting, though. yes, I know you can use the abstract in the description field when you are assigning just one abstract to one session, but we usually have more than one abstract/presentation per session. And yes, I already put this in the idea/suggestion area.

Subject: Adding session from abstracts - optional only?
HI Jami.
All sessions created from Abstracts are optional and we aren't able to make them included. We also aren't able to switch optional sessions to included once they are created so you will need to create a new session as an included one within the actual event.
Thank you!

Subject: Adding session from abstracts - optional only?
I've been trying, with no luck, to create "included" sessions from submitted abstracts. I have searched and cannot find anything on how to make it an "included" rather than "optional" session. When creating a session from the abstract management submissions, there is no option for the session type. When I publish the sessions to my event the are automatically added as optional rather than included. Is there a way to make the be included rather than optional?
