  • 1.  How do you boost revenue for virtual events where you are not charging for registration?

    Posted 08-23-2021 11:06

Hello Cvent Community, ready for another Huddle of the Week discussion? It's been extremely interesting and informative to listen to our customers' voices through the community. The discussions and questions being asked indicate what our industry is looking to learn more about, and how the Cvent platform can help you do that.

A topic that has come up in several questions is about pricing components for virtual or hybrid events. While many seem to have complimentary registrations for virtual events, there is often another layer to that – bringing revenue through the event, without charging for registration.

For some organizations, the goals of certain events have shifted from profit to other functions. For those that still are aiming for profit but may not be charging for registration, what are some best practices they can focus on? Let's discuss:

    • How do you boost revenue for virtual events where you are not charging for registration?

Let us know your ideas or suggestions! #HuddleoftheWeek #VoiceIt

You can always have sponsors and other companies buy their way in to talking to your client based through a session/part of the program.

Offer premium tickets if the possibility exists

Sell ads in your emails, web banners and social posts

    Merchandise or event SWAG

Its all about sponsors and exhibitors. The event is free but we also offer some specialty labls that have an additional cost.

    Hello Danni,

The obvious answer is exhibitor/sponsor, as has been mentioned already, but I'll add that the Attendee Hub & Event App offer various and valuable spots for exhibitors/sponsors beyond their actual booth. You could have them pay premium to be featured on the home page, or sell the various banner spots at auction. The sponsored sessions are also a valuable tool to leverage if your content is not required to be impartial.

Integrating logos to the footer of the conference emails, or allowing sponsors/exhibitors to send an email to your registrants (or invitation!) list is also a line item you can sell as an add-on or as part of a specific sponsorship tier.

    Cheers,

I think its exhibitor/sponsor, which has been already several times over as well as the Attendee Hub & Event App.
Speicalized sessions that are not part of a normal registration offered above and beyond  could be charged...the reistration to the event is free but the specialized sessions are above and beyond (optional).

Since everyone has already talked about sponsorship and exhibitors, let's think about some optional items.
If you have some really cool brand of swag that you know attendees will love, offer it as an optional item.
Also, although it does talk about sponsorship, make sure that for in person events you approach the local CVB. Many of their business partners might want your attendees to go out to dinner at their restaurant at night, by some of their logo items, or enjoy their local entertainment. You can easily advertise these things usually CrowdCompass App or the new Event app.

We do not charge for any of our events, as they are educational in nature in an attempt to build relationships with prospects and clients, convert to sales further down the road, and strengthen existing relationships (and share our knowledge).

You have to rely heavily on exhibitors and sponsors. We do virtual job fairs and don't charge admission for attendees, but charge the employers for their booth space.
