  • 1.  Private Domain - Anyone hosting their sites on own website versus Cvent?

We have been using cvent custom URL but now due to changes with the addition in Flex it isn't going to work for us.  We are now thinking about going down the route of using our own website to host our registration sites. Questions I have are:
    • Does anyone currently do this?
    • Any pros and cons to be made aware of before we do this?
    • Is anyone willing to share some live events on their website so I can see how it looks and how long the page takes to load?
    • Does it match your website?  Ours doesn't need to, as long as we use our company colors but was just curious if people are creating it the same for a seamless user experience?

We use a custom website for our largest event: www.shippersymposium.com. I'm not sure what the cost is for the domain, but I know that we own it. As far as website matching, that's really up to your marketing department and how they would like to handle the colors.

Have you considered a custom bit.ly URL? We didn't like the length of the cvent URL's but we wanted to continue for ease to host so we went to bit.ly and for a small fee paid for a custom URL. This enables us to take the event links and create something specific and we made them similar to our companies website. Through this method we also now get tracking and traffic results for our pages which has been nice.

    i.e. our website is www.tcs.com

Through bit.ly we created a custom URL on.tcs.com

So now we can convert the long cvent URL to something like on.tcs.com/BIGEVENT and it'll redirect to the cvent page. no hosting or anything required on our end.

For specific large conferences we did also set up our own URLs and just redirect on the domain side. So our www.tcssummitna.com redirects to a page built in cvent.

Your IT department may have the ability to create a "redirect" website URL that hides the cvent link behind a custom URL of your choice. Also you could opt to use bit.ly URL. Both options are far more time effective than coding your own website internally. Thanks!

If it is just the URL that's the problem, you can either use a bit.ly (and you can customize) or a redirect. If your company uses marketing automation software, your marketing department can make this process very easy - most have a tiny URL option. Redirects are great, but if you have a lot of events and always want each event to have a unique URL, it could get challenging with the naming convention. The upside of a redirect is if you have one event at a time and don't need people to see multiple events, you can update the same URL (such as https://www.yourcompany.com/cool-event) with whatever the Cvent URL is for the current event.
