I have wait lists for sessions. Several sessions have session questions.
If someone is waitlisted, the questions are not available.

Then when I move someone off the waitlist, I need them to go back and answer questions.
    You know how that goes.
Plus, session question answers may determine who I move off the waitlist.

Does it make sense to have attendees answer questions, even if they are waitlisted?
I think it does.  Curious if anyone else does.

To confirm, are you registering them yourself into the sessions when a space becomes available?

If so, I'm not sure how you could mandate a response. I would imagine you'd need to confirm through email communication or you'd have to make the question and admission item.

For our waitlisted attendees (at session level) the attendee has to re-enter the registration and confirm their session selection. At that time, they are prompted to answer the session question. Haven't had much of an issue in retrieving answers to session questions, but process-wise it did take us a little bit of work to get the Session Waitlist email wording into an easily understood set of instruction.

Correct. I am moving them off the waitlist. Often I'm cherry picking one attendee at a time.

There are times when I'll send an email to all those on a session waitlist for them to modify their registration. Then its first come, first served.
Classic is not very mobile friendly when it comes to modifying registrations, so I find myself doing it for attendees.

Back to the questions. If I knew some of the session answers, that would determine who gets moved off the waitlist.
Plus reduce the exchange of emails I need to get answers.

Thanks. I'm OK with creating and moving people off of waitlists.

My issue is that the attendee can't answer questions until registered.

One option would be to create an email that triggers whenever someone is added to the session's waitlist and require a response to the question in order to be moved off the waitlist.

I think you have to have people answer the questions, because as you know it is hard to get people to go back and answer the questions. And, if you are going to use their answers to pick the next people, it will be very helpful.

I think it does make sense to have attendees answer questions after they are waitlisted.  Dependent on their responses you will be able to pick the appropriate audience to have the most successful session possible.

I totally agree that this is necessary. I have not gotten the waitlist function to work well enough for our needs. When a session sells out I turn on a new session called "Waitlist for x session" that they can then sign up for and answer the associated questions. Then if I need to move people I just manually go in and change their session to the regular one.

@Kim Schechter Although the session questions won't carry over  to your registered session.

I would absolutely have them answer the questions, even if they are waitlisted. We just finished up our event for the year and had one session where there was a waitlist. While we didn't think we originally would have a need to ask questions for the session at all, it turned out that we did and if we had asked the question of the group who signed up, as well as the waitlisted group, it would have saved us a lot of hassle onsite.

I don't think it makes sense for those wait listed to answer the questions. I would just go back to them after they've been approved and have them answer separately.

    Rebecca,
Have you had success getting attendees to go back to answer questions? I've had no luck.
And in Classic it is nearly impossible to answer questions on mobile/.

I actually have never done this - but that would be my recommendation.

It depends on if they know they are waitlisted or not. If they know their answers may affect getting off the waitlist, they should want to answer them.
