  • 1.  Event Report with Address fields - Combining 2 fields into 1

    Posted 11-10-2021 13:38
All reports combine the contact fields Home Address Line 1 & Home Address Line 2 into 1 field in the report. This is problematic when creating lists and it's unclear why this was setup this way.

Has anyone figured out a solution to this illogical "feature"?

Sarah - I've wondered that for years and have asked but never received a response. These 2 address fields should export into their own respective columns.

Thank you, Linda: I agree. Have you ever been able to find a workaround in Excel? I appreciate your feedback. Thank you!

No I haven't. There's something in the Excel file that is keeping me from even converting the text to columns and I've even tried copy/paste into a new spreadsheet. They should be able to program the export to put these fields in their own column.

It's probably not completely helpful if you're running a report that includes registration questions, but if it's just for addresses this may help.

Instead of using Reporting, go to the Attendee List, select the group of folks you want on the report, then go up to the Bulk Actions dropdown and select Export. This will allow you to choose each address line/field independently.

I can see where you need the lines split. For me, I like that they are combined to reduce the white space if their is no address line 2 when printing addresses.

    That said.
One workaround for future events might be to create a custom contact field address 1 and custom contact field address 2.

For a current registration, if there aren't too many addresses that need to be split, export the addresses. Remove the line 2 to its own column.
Import back into the address book.

    Hi Sarah,

There is a really easy workaround on excel! Since the address line 1 and address line 2 go in as separate line breaks in the one column, you can use the text to column function to separate them out. Steps below

    1. Add a column or two after the address column in your excel so the data can be moved into these empty columns
    2. Select your column with your address and go to Data - Text to Column
    3. Select the Delimited option
    4. Select the "Other" option and in the empty box do CTRL + J (this separates data by line break)
    5. Select Next, then finish

That should do it. Screen shot below to help

Hi Hayley - I had tried the CTRL + J and I could never get it to work on my computer. I could do a find/replace and find the breaks using the CTRL + J but for some reason it only beeps at me when I try to enter the CTRL + J in the Other box.

So strange! I just tried it and it works on mine and split the data. Do you have a mac or windows?

Definitely a work around but if you can replace all using CTRL + J and change these to a *, then using the text to data with delimited * you should have the same result.
