Editing standard contact fields (gender)

Surprised to see this hasn't been covered yet, but....

Is there a way to edit standard Cvent contact fields? In particular, I am referring to the gender option. Given the current social climate, we'd like to be able to add other options to this field so we don't put anyone in an uncomfortable position.

If not, this is definitely something the developers should update, post haste... before it becomes an issue!

    Hi Krysten,

This is a great question! Our Product team is aware that updating the gender field for Standard Contact Fields is something out clients would like to see, and it is on the Product Roadmap. At this time, you can't edit the Standard Contact Field for Gender within Cvent. In the meantime, you can create a Custom Contact Field at the Admin level of your account with the options you would like your registrants to have. You will need to name it something other than "Gender" in order to save, but once you crate the field and pull it into your Event, you can rename the display name to read as Gender. You can reference Using Custom Contact Fields for guidance in how to create the field within your account. I would also recommend posting this idea in the Ideas portion of the Community, or up-voting this idea if you already see it on the page.

    Thanks!

    Hello,

Has there been any update to this/is this still on Cvent's radar? This is something that is being requested more and more by clients and a source of frustration.

    Hi Sean,
You can reach out to your Cvent success resource or our Customer Care team and they can enable the other gender options available for the standard gender contact field in Cvent. By default, the genders in the standard widget are Male and Female, but we also have options that can be enabled for "Male, Female and Non-Binary" and "Male, Female, Non-Binary, and Rather not say." If you would like any additional options outside of these available, then I would recommend that you create a custom field for gender with all of the options you need to display instead, as suggested by Cailey and Steven.

So there is a way to expand the gender options, but we need to contact Cvent to enable it? That's great to hear, but I feel like it should be easier/more intuitive/obvious to implement on our own. I for one would never have known about it had I not been following this thread.

It seems this is not well known, as the response I received from Cvent support was "Unfortunately, the option to be able to select Non-binary/Other in the Flight Request widget is not available at the moment.

However, we have logged feedback for the Product Development team to consider this as an enhancement request in their near future releases."

    Hi Sean,

In my post, I was referring to the standard gender contact field that can be added to the registration process (that is the one that can be enabled to have additional options currently) and not the gender field that appears in the travel widgets. Those are not available with the additional options at this point in time, as the support team noted.

    Julia,

Has  gender field for the travel widget been corrected yet to now allow other options besides male and female?

According to ABC News there are 58 gender options.
If it's a question your organization needs, do what Cailey suggested. Create your own custom contact field.

Custom fields are there to suit your specific needs that are not builit in.

I would like to see Cvent align with US Passport standards and include non-binary.  Yes, custom fields could work. But that is a workaround, and that means the rest of the process is also manual, i.e. reporting, and emails,  need to be manipulated, too.
