Doesn't seem like we can plan out as far as we'd like to. There is still a lot of uncertainty regarding hospitality staffing. We have an older demographic for some events and covid is still an issue for them.

I think the biggest challenge for us is determining the right balance between in person, virtual or hybrid events and of course having the volunteers/venue staff to support the in person events. It can be difficult to plan too far ahead as the health situation can change dramatically and people have become accustomed to virtual events we host. We are finally trying an in person event in a couple months and it will be a good "test" to see if we should continue to increase those kind of events.

The uncertainty of everything. Right now everything seems quiet and opening back up but we're trying to plan things out for September or October and theres just no way of knowing what the COVID landscape will look like at that time so we're having to plan everything in 2 ways and  artificially cut capacities just in case.

Definitely budgets are a concern, as the pandemic has hit all organizations on many financial fronts.  Being able to do more with less, be creative, be flexible, and manage expectations up (with leadership) and down (with attendees) is going to be very important for 2022 and likely beyond.

    Hi Ridhima,
I think the main uncertainty still comes from covid: we're not done with variants appearing and making previous immunization obsolete. So I'm expecting that we will seesaw between in-person and virtual events still in 2022. People are eager to be back in-person, but it might not be safe, or the best way to reach them! Longer terms, I'm expecting a mix of virtual and in-person events to become the norm, with differentiated audiences and content (participative-heavy content for in-person, and one-to-many content for virtual).
    Cheers,

I think the biggest concern is uncertainty and cost. We are struggling to confirm events too far in the future. When we do come up with a set date for an in-person event, the cost to do business is beyond the budget or the property is not available. Our best option so far is to have a plan A and plan B. Whether that is having a first choice location and a backup (if it's not available or too expensive), or moving from in-person to virtual - but being flexible!

      • Our biggest challenge is getting back in person. We have several events that haven't happened in two years, most of them be Customer appreciation focused. So getting back in person with our sales team and customers when they've all grown accustomed to connecting virtually has been a struggle. Also, contracting into venues that still maintain the service we were used to in the past.

I think we are still facing challenges with holding in-person events as we did in the past. Not only from a planning perspective - we have no idea how the global landscape will change in regards to restrictions - but considering that staffing will continue to be a challenge, I think relying heavily on the hybrid/virtual side is a safe bet, and using technology that can support that.
