Virtual Event Attendee Networking without getting CrowdCompass

    Hi all,

We are working on building a virtual event and today have had a request from the organization to provide an area for attendees to network.  I am looking for advice and examples of what other people are doing to provide a space for attendees to network virtually, without using CrowdCompass as budget for the event doesn't allow for purchasing this additional feature.

    Thank you!

    Sara

    Hello Sara,

    Here are a couple options:
    - set up a session that then splits into small group breakouts (4/5 people max per breakout) and have each small group do introductions, maybe give them a couple of prompt questions to get the dynamic going.
    - set up a session were people can pop in and out. People can introduce themselves, state what kind of people they are looking to interact with, then go off into their own separate sessions based on interest. More organic, but potentially messy.
    - set up a chatroom using something like slack (free). People would create channels based on interest, and interact via text. The advantage is that can go on parallel to the whole conference, and people can follow as many channels as they have interests. Channels could also be pre-created to help get it going. Then you could add a video-session time per channel for everybody to talk live depending on their interest.

I hope that give you ideas!
    Best,

Hi Béline! Thank you for your suggestions! Super helpful.  We're looking at Microsoft Teams now which seems to work very similarly to Slack in that it uses Channels to break things into groups.

Learning so much in such a short amount of time!

If you are using Zoom Webinar, they actually have a feature called "Zoom Rooms", which are breakout rooms that can be created in advance or on the fly. Here's more info: https://support.zoom.us/hc/en-us/articles/207483343-Getting-started-with-Zoom-Rooms#:~:text=Zoom%20Rooms%20is%20a%20software,or%20from%20their%20mobile%20device.

Did I mention that you can also integrate Zoom with Cvent (for a fee)? It's saving us a lot of time!

Hi Lori, I had heard tell that Zoom can integrate with Cvent now, which seems neat.  Could you describe how exactly that works? As it is right now we just create our own host links and share them via email, but I'm curious how Zoom exactly integrates into Cvent.  Thanks!

    Hi Sara,
The integration allows you to create the event in Cvent like normal... and then Cvent pushes that data to Zoom to create/populate the Zoom info, GRAB THE PERSONALIZED URL for anyone who registers and include that in your confirmation email, and keep the registration data updated between the two. We felt like we were doing double duty before the integration - this is saving us so much time, and it prevents registrants from having to register once in Cvent and then "finish your registration" in Zoom. We also no longer have to pull Zoom reports (except for poll questions, which we track closely) - that data pushes back to Cvent. We also have the Salesforce integration, so it pushes all the way back to Salesforce so that our sales team can easily see event data - who attended, who was a no-show. We can see how long they were on the webinar and determine if they qualify for CPE.

I also recommend zoom rooms, especially with so many people becoming familiar with zoom now!
