  • 1.  Reporting on Classic vs FLEX Events

    Posted 02-10-2020 17:00
    Hi Everyone,

I need to build a report that allows me to filter Classic vs FLEX events, but I am not seeing a straightforward way to delineate event types. Does anyone know how I can accomplish this?

    Thanks in advance,

    Jon

I have not warmed up to new reporting yet.
New cross reports still missing a function that I need, G/L codes, But that is another story.

I have not seen a filter for the classic/flex. I think the only option is to select the events manually.
    Curious why is it necessary?

    Thanks Steven,

Within our organization, we leverage Classic and FLEX events (due to missing functionality such as multiple language events in FLEX). We also leverage Google Analytics, which, sadly, we've just discovered require different code snippets for each event type.*

*The code snippet for Classic Events requires a <> and </> before and after the code snippet, while in FLEX, these brackets must be removed from the snippet to work. Upon learning this, we've created the new FLEX code snippet for GA.

Sadly, thus far, all events set up were done so with Classic Event snippet (since we didn't know about this differentiator yet). Thus, I have approximately 400 upcoming events in our production environment, and need to update all FLEX events with the newly created code snippet manually.

If anyone knows a better way to get a list of FLEX-only events out of the system, I'd be open to that as well.

    Thanks!

400! Yikes!  I see your point.

Is there anything in New Cross Reports 'Event Details' or 'Events Feature Usage' that might be unique to classic or flex?

Thanks, I checked and do not see anything that delineates Classic vs. FLEX events in the available report fields. There is "Event Type", but that simply toggles Public vs Private events.

I just submitted a formal case with CVent support; I'll post here once they respond.

It didn't see anything either. I was thinking that there may be a feature was used only used in classic and maybe something only used in flex.
    Do you use GL codes?

Sadly, we do not use GL Codes. Having said that, you gave me an idea.

We did create a custom required event field to define company division; given that it is largely one division that is using Classic events, I can probably build a report to get myself at least the majority of the way there, based on that. Thanks for the brain power Steven!

Damn!  IF you did use G/L codes, they don't work in new cross reports for flex events.
I just ran my new cross report looking at my G/L codes and only those in classic appear. Flex events are blank.
I think I have a support ticket for that one too.

Alright, CVent's official answer is that there is not a way to differentiate Classic vs. FLEX events within reporting. Their recommendation was to create a required event field for my event managers to complete when creating events (e.g. a drop down with options of "Classic" and "FLEX").

This definitely seems like a product oversight that needs to be fixed in future development of reports, but as far as their recommended workaround...
