Hi, Cvent Community! For this edition of Tip of the Week, we're sharing how to leverage mobile event apps for your virtual events. While we all know the importance of mobile event apps for in-person events, they are just as valuable to the virtual event experience. Your audience may be attending from all over the world, but you can just as easily reach them in their living rooms, dining rooms, and make-shift offices as you could in a breakout space. Here are just a few ways to engage with your audience right in the palm of their hands:

Get your attendees involved in the conversation! Incorporate Live Q&A and Live Polling.

    • While your presenters may not be able to see their audience, that doesn't mean they can't interact with each other. Live Q&A segments brings the attendee voice to life, while polling throughout presentations and designated breaks keeps your audience involved through otherwise passive, content-heavy programs.

Drive participation! Motivate attendee interaction with Gamification.

    • It's easy for attendees to lose motivation while sitting in front of their computers all day – even for a virtual event. Enter Mobile Event App Gamification. This is a fun way to encourage your audience to explore content within the app itself, post to the activity feed, and network with other attendees. With each completed challenge, attendees can earn points to win prizes and ultimate bragging rights.

Keep value to event sponsors! Feature sponsors throughout your custom mobile event app.

    • While onsite signage and branded activations aren't the easiest to translate to virtual events, that doesn't mean you can't show value to your event sponsors. Rotate banner ads at the top of the screen, create sponsor profiles spotlighting each partner, and incorporate splash pages where sponsors are highlighted full screen with zero distractions. Take it a step further and provide analytics to your sponsors. This tracks the interactions and behaviors between attendees and sponsors, providing direct insight into a sponsorship's ROI.

There are so many other mobile event app functions we could highlight, but we want to hear from you! What are ways you and your organization are keeping audiences engaged from afar?

We do those things you suggested but also employ push notifications linking the user to other aspects of the app as well as our sponsor websites.

All of the above are great tips. We use push notifications as well to keep folks up to date on what is going on. We also promote the Activity Feed and asking attendees to post photos to the internal Event Feed and social media. Gamification is a great way to engage. We use Click throughout the event and create challenges for specific sessions/events to drive engagement.

    Those are all great tips!
If your app also allows attendees to message each other, encourage people to use this feature to set-up one-on-one meetings with each other following a networking sessions with breakout rooms.

We have shortened sessions as online engagement window is much shorter than in person. We have also made a lot of our sessions smaller groups and enabled everyone to be able to participate. Engagement online is certainly key during this time!

    These are some great tips!

We are planning ways to use the app for our virtual event at the end of the year and plan to do a lot with mapping and tagging exhibitors/sponsors to give them more recognition. I'll tie in push notifications and gamification too so our sponsors feel they are getting good value for money.
