    It is a special week, as this Thursday, April 11th is Global Meetings Industry Day. Reflecting on the past year, let's celebrate event planners' and managers' resilience, innovation, and adaptability in the face of changing scenarios.  

    This year's theme for Global Meetings Industry Day (GMID) 2024 is  #TheEventProfessionalsJourney focusing on the evolving landscape of the event industry and the transformative journey of event professionals. This theme recognizes the challenges, growth, and continuous learning that professionals in the field undergo as they navigate the future of events.

    •  How has your professional journey as an event planner/marketer evolved to adapt to the industry's changing landscape?
      • My professional journey in this industry has changed a lot over time. Becoming more environmentally friendly has become a top priority especially working with clients.
    • What strategies have you implemented to stay ahead of emerging trends and technologies in the event industry? 
      • Staying ahead of the trends these days has been easier with social media in a way just seeing what trends are "in" and what isn't popular anymore. Staying up to date using social media has had its perks. Thats for sure.

    What a journey we've been on!  Due to COVID-19 the entire industry has had to be resilient, adaptable and find creative solutions.  We've had to embrace Hybrid/Virtual events and still manage financial streams.  Hybrid events are here to stay, therefore we need to find a way to personalize while focusing on the audience.  Our industry is stronger because of these challenges.

    •  How has your professional journey as an event planner/marketer evolved to adapt to the industry's changing landscape? My professional trajectory has largely been driven by my eager learner and early adopter mindset and parallels the evolution of event technology. When I began my career, fax machines and later palm pilots were the leading devices. We could have never imagined Zoom or AI.
    • What strategies have you implemented to stay ahead of emerging trends and technologies in the event industry? I'm not sure I'm ahead, but it's definitely on trend. Curating a compilation of go-to resources and maintaining the eager-learner momentum.

    •  How has your professional journey as an event planner/marketer evolved to adapt to the industry's changing landscape? When i got my start i was just doing basic event planning logistics. I began to evolve as we needed to design things more and taught myself how to use adobe. then i started to bring my love for technology into work and finding ways to bring technology into our events until eventually forming a role of Brand and Event Technologist which I think has helped keep our events competitive and interesting to our audience.
    • What strategies have you implemented to stay ahead of emerging trends and technologies in the event industry? Lots of reading and keeping up on industry trends.

    • How has your professional journey as an event planner/marketer evolved to adapt to the industry's changing landscape? I started in catering and conference services at a large convention center and then moved to a smaller hotel in Dallas in the catering department before going to the corporate and third-party sides.  I've been able to continue to adapt to event technology and changing trends to keep events new and exciting while being able to better partner with venues as I know the challenges they're up against.
    • What strategies have you implemented to stay ahead of emerging trends and technologies in the event industry? I've been very proactive about taking safety and emergency preparedness courses and am constantly on the lookout for new trends and things that have been done ad nauseum.  I work within the wedding industry on weekends and am also able to incorporate many of the ideas there into corporate events.

      • My professional journey took me from corporate planning to a focus on event technology. My passion for the software and data it delivers made me realize that role was much more suited to me and my skillset.

      • Software update webinars, new trainings, and demos are my go-to resources.
