I've used polls as both gathering insight and for fun. At safety conferences, many attendees have different views on what to prioritize. Using a poll, we can receive honest feedback without having to worry about the loudest voice in the room "winning" and without having to worry people are going with the flow. We also can use polls just for fun (such as which is the best color out of the list; or what is the best type of food, etc.). Polls can even be used in a sly way to learn about food or drink preferences for future events (they'll appear to be "just for fun", but there are things you can learn and do with the information).
Best tip is to not overdo the number of polls, and try to keep the questions short and easy to understand. Also, give some time for answers as some people may need to dig their phone or iPad out of their bag and log into the app. I try to wait 10-15 seconds after reading the question and options before advancing to the results. Also recommend letting people know to have their device handy as there will be polling taking place in the presentation.

Subject: Using polling as the best conference tech for your speakers
Happy Wednesday everyone! Let's kickstart with our next edition of the Tip of the Week discussion! Incorporating conference tech into your corporate event can help speakers to streamline their presentations and make themselves stand out. Polling makes a session or conference more interesting to attend live and also helps attendees better retain the information they hear by involving them in the presentation.
3 Benefits of Polling
Speakers can find valuable information from the audience that will inform the rest of the presentation, allowing them to be more engaging.
It's anonymous and does not require verbal participation. Polling can help even the most introverted of attendees be heard.
It's easy to immediately identify topics and concerns that are top-of-mind for the audience.
Tips to Use Polling
It's possible to incorporate polling software directly into the conference application. Although independent polling software exists, incorporating it into your existing conference tech can free up a lot of your budget.
The ease of use means that you can incorporate polling at several different points of the session, and in different ways.
Organizers can also get feedback from attendees, and access the results as quickly as the audience responds.
Some types of conference tech allow you to send polling data to users at the conclusion of the session. This can be a great way to refresh attendees' memories and open up discussion about the session even after the event has ended.
