This topic has been in the "Ideas" section, and has heavy traffic.
Separate the sections of the hotel widget so that "select hotel" and "select room" are disabled. The sequence of the selections displays out of the order of the selections need to be made, disruptive and confusing to registrants. It also takes up an inordinate amount of screen real estate, esp. mobile devices, and the option to not to request a room is easily missed, buried at the bottom of the page.
Additionally, when only one hotel and one room type is being offered, the process is superfluous.

I absolutely agree that the hotel widget is cumbersome. I have an unusual amount of people that bypass the widget entirely, for whatever reason, and end up with no housing. This makes more work for me because I know they are not local and will need housing so I have to email them all for their information. It is cumbersome for everyone - the registrant and the Cvent client. It was SO much easier when there was the question - do you need a hotel room - yes or no?

100% agree. When something is effective but no efficient, its a complete frustration and waste of time. Hopefully someone at the development can read this.

    Hi @Jayne Ferro,
I was having that also. I learned one way to help stop that from happening was to turn on the "Require registrants to submit a request" AND "Allow invitees to book their own accommodations." Then I updated the standard "No hotel needed." text to "I will take care of my own accommodations at my own expense."

I also add instructions at the top like "Select your hotel dates, then click on the "Select Hotel" button below. You will need to select your "Room Type." They seem to realize then what needs to be done one way or the other because the system requires them to either complete the whole process for booking a room or they must select "I will take care of my own accommodations at my own expense," which generally they don't want to do.

It isn't ideal, but it seems to cut down on people not selecting a hotel when they need one.

Jill, thank you for that suggestion. I have never explored using the "book their own accommodation" but maybe that will work if I can change the text. This could be a solution; I really appreciate this!

This work around it awesome! I cannot thank you enough, Jill. I made the hotel request required and turned on book you own room and changed that language to "I do not need a hotel room." This should solve the problem of people missing the housing widget altogether.

    Hi @Jayne Ferro,

I want to change the language like you mentioned above but cannot find where to do that. Can you point me in the right direction?

    Thanks!

    Hi Scott -

You can update the language under Marketing -> Language Management

In the search box type "accommodation" - you'll see the "I will book my own accommodation" and just update the language by selecting the pencil next to it, insert the custom text and make sure you hit the Save icon.

    Hopefully that helps!

    Thanks Daniel,

I did a search under IDEAS in the Community and found a few posts on the topic of the widget and hiding hotel selection.

Completely agree! We're seeing that attendees are either skipping or not fully completing the process as well. Having to click to select a hotel, click to select a room type and then click Done is very cumbersome when there is only one hotel and one room type to choose from.

We've been just adding it as a question to accommodate our needs, but that adds additional work when it comes to reporting and sending hotel confirmation emails - not ideal at all.

I agree also. I just used the hotel widget for an event and had several people reach out because they didn't actually click the submit button and were getting an error. I did include the option for people to not need a hotel room for those local to the event.
