Can streamline registration by collapsing registrant categories, but then have them select different admission item depending on their type?

    Hi,

I am trying to see if I can streamline a conference registration by limiting the categories the registrants see on the initial registration page.

For example, the types of people registering will be in-person:
    1. Students
    2. Paraprofessionals
    3. Professional Members
    4. Professional Non-members
    5. For-Profit Publishers & Exhibitors
    6. Non-Profit Publishers & Exhibitors
    7. (Possibly) Bronze Sponsors
    8. (Possibly) Silver Sponsors
    9. (Possibly Gold Sponsors
    Virtually, we're allowing for:
    1. Students
    2. Paraprofessionals
    3. Professional Members
    4. Professional Non-members
Also, sponsors who are not attending, can just pay for a sponsorship without entry registration:
    1. Bronze Sponsors
    2. Silver Sponsors
    3. Gold Sponsors
I was hoping to limit the initial dropdown selection to
    1. Students or Paraprofessionals (-because they'll be paying the same fee)
    2. Professional Members (different fee from others)
    3. Professional Non-members (different fee from others)
    4. Publishers & Exhibitors and/or Sponsors (different fee from #1-3 above and from for-profit, non-profit, and different sponsorship levels)
My hope was that I could then have the publishers, exhibitors, and sponsors select their specific admission item (for-profit, non-profit, or bronze, silver, gold).  However, I'm having trouble figuring out if the ones mentioned in the previous sentence need to be separate "admission items" or just can be a part of one admission item, but with different fees.  I want the registrant to choose their fee, if possible, rather than it just being directly assigned to them.  Is that possible?

    Thanks,
    Sue

    Hi Sue!

I believe you can create the individual fees via the registration type instead of the admission item.

Here are some articles I found that might be helpful:

    Hi Sue,

We're getting into the nitty gritty, which I love! You've got several ways you could achieve what you're trying to do.
First, the same admission item (say, virtual, or in-person) can be a different amount depending on the registration type selected by the registrant. So you could build just two or three registration paths, maybe three admission items (in-person, virtual, non-attending sponsor) and then the fee would be matched with the level of sponsorship they've previosuly chosen.

You could do it the other way around where they pick from a reduced number of registration paths, and then specialize by picking different admission items for the different levels of sponsorship. You could also use optional items for your sponsorship levels if you wanted to keep the number of admission items reasonable.

Finally, if you choose to have lots of different registration types, but don't want to clutter people's first registration page with a super long list, you can use some custom logic to kick registrants to different registration paths depending on who they are (based on invitation lists for example). So you're pre-identified sponsors/exhibitors would only see the exhibitor paths rather than have to wade through the other reg types to pick theirs.

    I hope it's helpful!
