  • 1.  Copied event still using old weblinks

    Posted 09-20-2023 15:02

I created an event for one city, and then copied it for another city. I'm ready to open registration but all the weblinks for the summary page, registration and decline are all still going to the original copied event. How do it get those to update so links in the invites go to the correct page?

    Thanks,

    Tara

    Hi Tara,

    Hope you are doing well!

In case, you have copied your event, you can always identify and updated any outdated information.

Read over your emails and double-check they've been scheduled to send on the right day.

All data tags will auto-populate with the new event data. Any static text and hyperlinks will need to be updated. To update your weblinks, you will have to use the new weblink of your event. To access weblinks-  Go to your event> From the left navigation, click on Marketing > Click Weblink > Copy and use the weblinks from this section and paste it in your emails, which needs to be updated.

Once this is done,  test your event to make sure, everything is working correctly.  You can also refer to the article - What to Check Before Opening Registration
and What should I check before sending an email .

For more information on a copied event, you can refer to the following article from the Knowledge Base - Copying an event  and before launching your event make sure, you test your event, also you can refer to the article - Testing your registration process .

    Hope this helps!

    Hi VJ,

Is there any way to set up an event the uses the updated links for Summary, Registration, etc. when the event is copied?

    Hi VJ,

I read your answer again and see that you mentioned that all data-tags update with current information so that is how we can resolve this issue. By using data tags. correct?

    Hi VJ,

When I go here like you suggest: To access weblinks-  Go to your event> From the left navigation, click on Marketing > Click Weblink > Copy

and copy the weblink into a browser it goes to the original copied event. I compared the two event weblinks and the URL's are different. So, the question is how do I get the new event's weblinks to point to the new event pages? They still go to the original copied event. It is as if it doesn't know that the summary and registration page have been updated.

    Thank you,

    Tara

    Hi Tara,

    Thanks for your response!

You are correct when you say that using data tag will update the information even for a new event, however, if weblink or hyperlinks are used, then they need to be updated, when the event is copied.

Regarding the issue you are still facing, please provide us with the name of the event or the event id, also let me know the steps you are taking to get the issue or test the event, so that I can replicate the issue and give you the correct information.

    Hope this helps!

This is something that I still struggle with after a year of using Cvent.  I wish there were standard data tags for various weblinks that you can create.  I have a number of emails that include links to direct attendees back to various pages on the registration website for more information.  It would be nice to be able to set up a data tag once fir the weblinks that you use and have it populate correctly any time you copy that event.
