Hi everyone! Let's kick off the Huddle of the Week by highlighting the upcoming Cvent Excellence Awards!

As event professionals, we know the one thing we don't always get (besides a lot of sleep) is recognition. That's why the Cvent Excellence Awards are dedicated to highlighting the incredible accomplishments of our industry leaders from organizations of all sizes. This year's hybrid awards promise to be bigger and better than ever (as is fitting for our first-ever Cvent CONNECT in the Lone Star State!). Submissions are open now and we'd love to highlight your achievements.

While we've brought superb entertainment and plenty of memorable moments to the stage in years past, we want to make this year the best yet – and that means even more finalists with incredible stories, top-tier entertainment, and exceptional experiences for our finalists and winners. And don't forget, all finalists receive 2 FREE Cvent CONNECT registrations as well as well-deserved recognition in front of the industry.

To make this year better than ever, we'd love to hear from you!

    1. What success story in your career as an event professional are you most proud of and why?
    2. What experiences would you like to see at this year's Excellence Awards?
    3. If you're a former awards finalist or winner, any tips for your fellow event professionals who are applying?

Want to learn more? Check out our website for all categories and submit to our "Event Professional" categories today at Cvent Excellence Awards | Cvent.

    1. What success story in your career as an event professional are you most proud of and why? Coming out of the 2012-'13 NHL lockout, we had less than 10 days from the lockout ending until the first team arriving to my 220 room hotel.  To make matters worse, we had an NBA team in-house with a 5:30pm check-out for an 8:30pm game.  Despite being sold out the night prior to the NHL team's arrival of 50 rooms (with 40+ NBA team rooms unavailable until the evening), we were able to flip enough rooms to allow for the team and coaches to get into their rooms upon their 4:00pm arrival.  It took a lot of planning, people doing what wasn't in their job description, communication, and a super secret use of a favor on my part regarding the team's flight to make it happen.
    2. What experiences would you like to see at this year's Excellence Awards? The last time I attended, they were still called the Plannies.  I love when there are entertainment factors incorporated.  The Cirque du Soleil acrobats in 2017 were so fun to watch and kept the energy up in the room.
    3. If you're a former awards finalist or winner, any tips for your fellow event professionals who are applying?  I took home the Plannie Mobile Maverick award in 2017.  In included metrics with the nomination to show dollars and percentages saved using the platform.  I feel like giving a per-person savings from printed materials and explaining the $25k we saved by not printing for a 150 person event was reallocated to F&B which increased scores in that area.  The $25k included approximately 40 hours of compiling and assembling binders, shipping to/from the event, and last-minute printing costs. Use numbers and describe chain effects for the category whenever possible.

    1. What success story in your career as an event professional are you most proud of and why?  While I'm proud that I can now jump into Cvent and build out a complex event, I am most proud that I know what questions to ask of the software and community while I do so.  "I know the program can do this, and I bet it's in this feature, so let me go learn more about that feature!"
    2. What experiences would you like to see at this year's Excellence Awards?  I would love to be able to attend virtually!
    3. If you're a former awards finalist or winner, any tips for your fellow event professionals who are applying? N/A

    1. What success story in your career as an event professional are you most proud of and why? Implementing the Uber voucher connector in Cvent. Game changer for efficiency of not task switching between platforms, time savings for planner, cost savings and cost avoidance of not paying for an empty shuttle van.
    2. What experiences would you like to see at this year's Excellence Awards? n/a.
    3. If you're a former awards finalist or winner, any tips for your fellow event professionals who are applying? don't hold back, brag on yourself like you would any other event professional you admire!

    1. What success story in your career as an event professional are you most proud of and why? Getting assigned to my first virtual event shortly after starting with my company, and learning Attendee Hub quickly to successfully manage multiple sessions, breakout rooms, and exhibitor booths.
    2. What experiences would you like to see at this year's Excellence Awards? I know the nomination process has already started, but in the future I would like to see some other "individual-winner" categories that aren't people's choice, but decided by Cvent. Since Event Technology roles are increasing, it would be great to see one of those, too.
    3. If you're a former awards finalist or winner, any tips for your fellow event professionals who are applying? Include all accomplishments and innovative product uses in your submission - everything counts! :)
