Hi Peter,
Hope you are doing well!
In regards to your query, I understand you would like to receive an email alert/notification as soon as someone registers for the event. Mr. Steven has rightly suggested to use the planner alerts.
However, I understand that you do not have the option to open the side panel for navigation. That is because your event type is Express Registration Event and that does not come with the side panel. All navigation tabs are present on top (screenshot attached).
In express registration events you can use the additional recipient setting present in the registration confirmation email to receive a copy of that email, every time someone registers. Here, please follow the steps below:
Open Event in Cvent > Promotion and Communication > Registration confirmation email > Edit > Additional Recipients section > Add your email address > Save.
Additionally, you can create a Name badge at the Admin level, design the same using data tags related to amount due and amount paid and then use the same in the event.
Here, please follow the articles below to get more insight on creating a badge and adding the same in your Express registration event.
Since, badges cannot be printed from an email or webpage you will be required to print these badges at the backend and then share with the invitees outside Cvent. Furthermore, you also have an option to share the 'Orders & Payments' page with the invitees by sharing that page as email.
Here are the steps:
Event > Invitee Management > Click on the respective invitees name > Orders & Payments tab > Action > Email this page.
Also, here's a list of articles which will give you more insight on creating Express ticketing event and use its feature:

We currently do not have the planner alert feature available for express events. But, it certainly is a great feedback. I suggest you to post this on the 'Product Ideas' tab of Cvent community i.e. Cvent community > Participate > Product ideas > Add new or Upvote an existing idea. We encourage you to always submit your ideas or any challenges you face while working with the product. As it also helps our Product Development team to review the possibilities and if it works we may try to incorporate such changes in our future releases.
Also, if you feel this information has helped you, please indicate the same by marking this response as 'best answer'. Doing this gives visibility to a response and in turn helps fellow community users find answer to similar questions.

Thanks! The only problem that I'm running into is that I cannot toggle the side panel to open up the email option in my event. In my other events, I can toggle the side panel to open up the Planner alerts, but in this particular event, the side panel won't open.

That would be a planner alert.

Subject: Notifications When Someone Registers
Hi!
I am wondering how to set up email notifications for when someone registers for my event. Each registration will require a payment, so having some sort of receipt for this purchase being sent in the email would be helpful.
To clarify, I want to be the one receiving the notification emails, letting me know when someone has registered for my event.
Thanks!
Peter
