  • 1.  Open-ended Text box character limit

    Posted 10-12-2022 08:11
We are using the open-ended text box to collect bios from attendees. I've set a character limit to try and limit the length of bios people upload as we typically have limited space in our bio booklets. The issue we are having is that bios are getting cut off without people knowing. Now, we are ending up with incomplete bios.

Is there an error message we can include once the character limit is reached so that attendees know to double check their bios? Or at least stops them from registering further so they can fix the issue?

    Hi Brittany,

    Hope you are well!

I was able to locate your account and I believe your query is related to the 'Please upload your short biography below.' question within the 'Warburg Pincus Connect: 2022 Healthcare CEO Retreat' event.

I see that the maximum character limit is set as 1000 for this field.

I tested this in my own test event and the maximum character limit is unlimited. So whatever the character limit you will add under the maximum box, the system will let the invitees to add upto that limit. Also, the character limit included the spaces.

You can increase the character limit of your field and publish the changes. For this, please go to the event > Registration > registration process > go to the page where you have added the question > Click on the 'Please upload your short biography below.' question > on the right panel that opens, please scroll down and increase the character limit under Maximum box. Additionally, right after the question text, you can add within brackets the word limit for the invitees.

I set the maximum character limit to 5000 in my own event and it let me add upto 5000 characters.

    Hi Raashi,

I appreciate the response, but that is not the issue we are having. I understand we can set the limit (which we've done). The issue we are having is when an attendee inputs their bio that exceeds the limit, there is no error message letting them know that they've reached the max limit of characters. Thus, most of the bios that are being input are cut off and not complete bios.

My question is: Is there no way to add an error message that you've reached the character limit?

    Hi Brittany,

    Thank you for your response.

When I tested this, I was not able to add anything after the character limit was met. So the invitees should be able to see that they are not able to type anything after the limit is met for the question.

Having said that, unfortunately, as of now, there is no option to add any error message if they exceed the character limit during registration. However, you can add a text after the question text advising them about the character limit and ask them to keep a check on it.

You can also add it as an 'idea' for our product team to look into for future enhancement.

Please let me know if you have any further questions.
