    Executing the perfect event can be overwhelming, but when you're planning an in-person event in an unfamiliar location, it becomes even more stressful.

    If you're planning a destination event and not quite sure where to begin, someone might have recommended you seek out a destination management company (DMC) to help. At which point, you should probably ask yourself, "what is a destination management company?"

    A destination management company (or DMC) is a business that encompasses a wide variety of professional services at a travel destination to help remove some of this stress.

    Questions for you:

    • Have you ever worked with a DMC?
    • If yes, what benefits did you gain while working with a DMC?

    • Have you ever worked with a DMC? Not recently, but I have worked FOR a DMC.
    • If yes, what benefits did you gain while working with a DMC? I think a DMC benefits you when you are looking for most small intimate team building options, and local detailed attention. I would lean more towards a smaller DMC vs. a large national brand. Although both have their benefits.

      • We have when we lost our venue and had to scramble to find another site.
    • If yes, what benefits did you gain while working with a DMC?
      • Our event was in a fairground that we haven't used before. We needed someone familiar with the venue and permitting process.

    Questions for you:

    • Have you ever worked with a DMC? We work with a DMC every year for our one big event
    • If yes, what benefits did you gain while working with a DMC? They have local knowledge and insight, can often negotiate bigger deals, for the purposes we use them (evening reception) they can focus on sourcing all those little details while we can focus on the program as a whole and all the little elements to make things the best possible for our clients.

    • If yes, what benefits did you gain while working with a DMC? I've seen very creative team building events, group off property events  and excellent destination experiences for group attendees.
