Hi Erin,
Thank you for your question about using event templates versus copying events in Cvent.
From a technical standpoint, both "Create from Template" and "Copy Event" work the same way: they copy the configuration of an existing event into a new one. That means if the source event (or template) has outdated information, old links, or features you no longer use, those elements will be copied over in either case.
The real advantage of event templates is operational, not mechanical. Templates are intended to be curated, standardized starting points that your admins or program owners maintain. When you:
-
Designate a small number of "golden" templates for your recurring events,
-
Control who can edit those templates, and
-
Refresh them periodically (for example, after each year's event),
you reduce the chance of "bad" or outdated information being carried forward. Instead of copying any prior event (which may include one-off changes), your planners always start from a clean, approved baseline.
So, templates don't automatically strip out bad info, but they give you a controlled place to keep the starting point clean and up to date, which is especially helpful for year-over-year events.
Hope this helps!

Subject: What is the advantage to Event Templates vs. Cloning Events that are similar?
Hi,
I want to understand the advantages of event templates vs. cloning? We think we want to create an event template for an event that is the same YOY, but we sometimes have issues with bad information getting copied or features that are out of date? Does the event template solve for that?
Thank you!
Erin
