  • 1.  Creating sliding scale payment

    Posted 04-28-2020 17:32

    Hi!
Like many others, our big in-person conference is moving to virtual this year. Instead of having a fixed price, we want to offer it at a sliding scale, and let people choose to pay what they are able to. We will have a couple of "recommended" payment tiers, but ultimately want people to choose their own price.

We have a number of different sessions that people can sign up for, and will offer both a full event pass, or to only sign up for pieces of the event (and have different recommended prices attached to those.)

We use guest registration (as families/couples often come to this event together), so it would be paying for potentially more than one person.
We do use Optional Items right now as a way for folks to make a donation during their registration, but only for the primary registrant.

Any ideas on how to set up sliding scale payment in this scenario? Or if you've done sliding scale payment, how did you do it?

    Thanks!

    Hi Elizabeth,

Great thought with Donation Items - one idea would be to re-name your Donation Items to appear as the full event cost (i.e. including costs for both the primary and their guests, and whether they choose full pass or just specific sessions). This would allow you to collect the full payment in one single item, and using instructional text throughout you can ensure you highlight the recommended tiers for everything offered.

Another idea would be to have a fixed cost, and then offer various Discount Codes that will update to your recommended pricing tiers. As an example, if you have a 'Full Event Pass' Admission Item set to $50, you could then create 3 different Discount Codes to "Charge a fixed price of X" and display them as instructional text with the Admission Item widget and on the Payment page. You can also control if the Discount Code can be used by both Invitees and Guests, and choose which items it can be applied to.

    Best,

    Danni
