Hi Current Flex Users or New Flex Users,

When working in the Flex designer, what are some of your best tips and tricks?

My Tip: I always reminder colleagues to select shift+enter or return+enter when they want to control the spacing between line breaks. Enter

That's a great tip! I taught my colleague that as well, as it was causing a lot of issues with spacing.

My tip would be to utilize the sections/columns to get your page to look exactly the way you want it!

    Hi Laura,
Great tip! Its also much easier to move sections around within the page and onto another page if needed.  You can also easily change the background color or add an image of one section.  My go to is sections and columns.  Its also very mobile friendly.

    Hi Loretta,

I am sorry I missed you at Connect.  Do you have any good tips?

One good one a colleague just implemented was added the signature to the footer in our email communications.  This way you only need to update the following line once.

    _______

    For questions please contact...

    Regards,
    Team

Where it says "Team" We use Planner First and Planner Last under Event details.  This also allows us to use those data tags through out the email communications and from fields.

Wish we could have Cvent Connect-ed!

This is conceptual, but after my visit to Cvent Connect, I was inspired to craft a strategic Flex implementation plan (Thank you, Capital Group for your inspiring presentation!) for our team using a stakeholder process to identify pain points (Thank You, Reggie!) and opportunities for innovations.  As an early adopter of Flex and being new to Cvent, we have created our event templates and now I want to learn how to thoughtfully apply functionality to the benefit of our team and our internal and external customers.

    Hi Loretta,

This is a fantastic idea and I can't wait to hear all about your journey.  The one thing I love about the tool is its endless.  No event is the same and no site is the same.  Templates are a great way to apply consistency and time saving strategies.  Practicality for both the internal and external customers is the biggest piece to the puzzle that you need to think about when building the site for each event.    What data do you need for this event?  What data do you need for all events year after year?

Templates are efficient.  When we recreated the templates in Flex, we took the opportunity to set standards in their design.

    HI JoAnna,

I'll start with the Question/Data Widgets.  One size does not fit all, but this should give you an idea of what we did.

Examine the data you are gathering and understand its journey among your systems and Cvent.

    1. We standardized the field labels, for example, we use "Organization" instead of "Company" and Business", because our clients are private, public sector and nonprofit.  This will prevent having different events with different field labels.  I understand different organizations do things differently, however, this is a standard we created.
    2. Have a content grid that includes the Cvent widget names and your field label name, if the question is required or not, and notes.
    3. Have standardized content for different webpages and reg pages.  For example, we have standard language for different scenarios related to the hotel accommodations.
    4. Do the same for questions if you have standard questions. Example: we have standard questions for golf outings.
    5. In another worksheet tab, map the order of the questions/text.
    6. Once you have your content set and mapped, build your templates and save the custom questions and text in the Question Library.  I add setting notes into the content grid.

NOTE:  We started in Flex back in Sept/Oct, we had to change up our questions, because the  sub-logic question functionality was not rolled out yet.  As functionality rolls out, you might need to examine if changes should be made.

    Hi Loretta,

This is great.  I think it will be helpful for you too when they roll-out the Question Library so you can save these standards to pull into your events to save time and update across the account faster.  I think this is great that you are looking as standardizing things.  It will help with cross event reporting to look for consistencies for planning year after year.

    Great job!

Yup.  The Question Library is functioning though I am not sure if it is completely rolled out.  We put the standardized questions in the Question Library that are not in our base templates.

    Hi Kayla,

We have created templates in our account and I have done this in Cvent for the past 7 years.  This way as you learn and grow and have best practices you update the template.  You can copy a template vs. an event and keep the template streamlined.  This has always been a huge time saver and allows all users to be both Brand and GDPR compliant as things change and features in Cvent change.  I found that if I copy and event from 6 months prior Cvent has progressed along with my design ideas and my registration site has not which creates more work.

My tip would be to not use the spacer widget and instead go to whatever widget you're working on and increase the margins in the widget preferences to achieve the same effect.
Why? For web accessibility reasons! The spacer widgets read as empty when using a screen reader, so they clutter and make the page less navigable, while the margins are fine.

    Hi Béline,

This is a great tip. I always tell the team to view all pages and all emails in both desktop version,  tablet and mobile.  If they get too spacer happy it pushes content down in the mobile version.

We are not able to add tables or tab content on webpages yet, however, tech support taught me this hack today.

Use the text widgets as columns.  I had three columns of data so I added three text widgets to a section.

    Looks great!

    Hi,

Yes, we will do two or three columns and stack them but keep in mind that when you view in mobile view it reorders the text so it can be confusing.  One tip we learned was to build it out and take a screen gab > save it as an image and upload.

I didn't know well on keyboard short cut, but in-depth on Flex you can move/duplicate the question to other pages and share to other paths. On other paths you can just hide the duplicated content or create new. You can also easily create a multiple sub-question. sample attached below is for your references.

Hi @Darren Gan, this is great.  I just noticed this new update too.  You can opt-out of sharing this question on all paths when duplicating now too.  So if you update on one it will no longer update on all.   This is a great new feature.  Thank you for sharing.
    Duplicate to another page

Hi Flex users New and old!

Has anyone started using sessions waitlists in your Flex Events? How about the Save the Date while you are still building your site? The new Feedback Survey?

I feel like Cvent is releasing something new in Flex every week that we are excited to use.  What is your favorite this month?

I haven't seen any info about the Save the Date feature but that might be really helpful for an event I'm working on. Anyone have more info about that?

Hi @Ginger Swart, I hope you found some information about the new Save the date emails with in the events.

    https://support.cvent.com/apex/CommunityArticle?id=000041963&Lang=en_US&searchTerm=save%20the%20date

I personally still use a child event since I integrate a save the date with a Salesforce campaign.

There have been so many great features added in Flex. Does anyone have a favorite?

The virtual event/session options is great for reporting and new data tags for your emails and website content.
