We are utilizing event platforms that allow us to award points based on user engagement during our virtual event. Fortunately, our partner has structured the activities and points structure. 

May I ask for some input from the community, please? 

1) Can you share copies of your policies and/or rules?
2) What pitfalls do we need to avoid in setting up the gamification and awarding the prizes?

Here are the rules we used for the gamification in our app last year:

The in-app game experience is a great way to learn how to use the app in a short period of time and discover new networking opportunities. You'll earn points for exploring the app and earning achievements, and you can even opt in to compete on the leaderboard against other event attendees. You never know who will be right on your heels. Everyone wins by playing, but only a few earn the right to be top of the leaderboard.

Please note:

1. The game is accessible immediately, and can be played at any time.
2. The leaderboard ends when the event ends.
3. Everyone can play. Just download the app and start exploring.
4. We want you to engage with the app, event, and other attendees, not spam people. Bad behavior can get you banned from the leaderboard.

We actually didn't award prizes last year as we wanted to gauge how many people used it and test it out before making it "a thing" - And now this year because we have gone virtual, I again am not sure if we will bother brining in prizes. I really wish we were able to customize the gamification settings more. We could sell it to sponsors if players had to go to a particular exhibitor or speaker profile to get points. Maybe one day.

Hi Mary, 

Some of the pitfalls to avoid is making sure it's clear what qualifies people to win the prizes. We made the mistake of saying that anybody doing anything was good enough to be entered in the draw, and so we have people who logged on once, maybe attended 5 min of a session, and bam, they qualify for the draw. Or they answer our participation survey at random, having not actually attended, and still can win. So maybe set a minimum number of points people have to reach to qualify? 

In general, when you decide which tasks give people points, keep in mind what are potential loopholes people could exploit to win more points, such as entering sessions to be marked as having attended, and then going to the next session on the same time block.
