Some of the pitfalls to avoid is making sure it's clear what qualifies people to win the prizes. We made the mistake of saying that anybody doing anything was good enough to be entered in the draw, and so we have people who logged on once, maybe attended 5 min of a session, and bam, they qualify for the draw. Or they answer our participation survey at random, having not actually attended, and still can win. So maybe set a minimum number of points people have to reach to qualify?
In general, when you decide which tasks give people points, keep in mind what are potential loopholes people could exploit to win more points, such as entering sessions to be marked as having attended, and then going to the next session on the same time block.
