Breakout Room Discussions:
The breakout sessions provided a platform for attendees to engage in meaningful discussions on accessibility and continuing education. In the accessibility breakout, participants shared ideas and best practices for creating inclusive event experiences. The incorporation of non-alcoholic drinks to be more inclusive and the consideration of sensory rooms for attendees who struggle with crowds and loud noises were noteworthy ideas. Additionally, the importance of gathering information on accessibility needs during registration and leveraging tools like the Microsoft Translator app for language barriers were discussed. Another key takeaway was the need for wheelchair-accessible check-in stations at events.
In the continuing education breakout, participants focused on improving the tracking and certification process. The need for premium surveys to automate certificate distribution after event completion was discussed at length. Participants also explored different methods to track participation, including virtual duration tracking, in-app engagement, and post-event evaluations. To enhance survey response rates, gamification elements and future raffles were suggested as effective strategies.
The May Higher Ed Hub session proved to be a valuable platform for higher education professionals to gain insights into accessibility and continuing education in creating impactful and inclusive events. These insights will undoubtedly guide higher education institutions in planning future events that prioritize accessibility, engagement, and professional growth.
