If you've ever exported a report just to remove canceled registrations or test records, you don't have to.
With Cvent's Build Your Own Reports, you can filter your data during report creation, so the report reflects exactly what you want to analyze for a single event.
Step 1: Start with a clear question for this event
Before selecting fields or metrics, decide what you want to understand about this specific event. For example:
- How did VIPs engage at this event?
- Which sessions performed best?
- What was the final registration or revenue breakdown by registration type?
Each question maps directly to the filters you apply next.
Step 2: Apply filters that match your question
Use filters within the event to focus your dataset based on what you are trying to answer. For example:
If your question is about VIP engagement, filter by:
- Registration type or category
- Attendance status
If your question is about session performance, filter by:
- Session
- Attendance or engagement indicators
If your question is about registration or revenue, filter by:
- Registration status (excluding canceled or test records)
- Registration type or pricing tier
Applying these filters early ensures the report is built on the right data.
Step 3: Remove noise at the source
Use filters to exclude data that should not be part of your analysis, such as:
- Canceled registrations
- Test or internal records
- Incomplete survey responses
This keeps your report clean without manual cleanup.
Step 4: Layer filters for more precise insights
Once the core dataset is set, refine further by adding filters like:
- Specific attendee segments
- Specific sessions or tracks
- Time-based windows (where applicable)
This helps you answer more detailed questions without rebuilding the report.
Step 5: Standardize how you build reports for each event
While reports cannot yet be reused across events, you can still create consistency by:
- Using the same filter logic for every event debrief
- Documenting a standard set of filters your team applies
- Building reports that answer the same questions event-to-event
Questions for you:
- What questions do you usually start with when building reports for an event?
- Which filters do you apply every time?
- What would make it easier for you to compare results across events?
