My client would like to gather contact information for those interested in a future event so that once reg is open, we can use that pre sale contact info to create invitation lists then invitation to register emails.  What is the best way to do that? We will have a webpage set up, want to click a button that goes straight to collect basic contact info, then save.

You can achieve this by creating a Lead Capture Form using Cvent's Flex Registration or a simple Survey Form.

This form can be linked to a button on your webpage, allowing visitors to submit their details quickly. Once collected, these contacts can be used to create an invitation list when registration opens, making it easy to send targeted invitations. If needed, you can also set up an automated confirmation email to acknowledge their interest.

There are many ways to achieve this.  You can also add a Opt-in question in your current and future registration page asking " Would you like to be invited for future events"  and if they respond "yes "then use that opt-in response for next event's invitation.

We use Microsoft forms to collect that information. It allows us to track what we need and then import it into the system when we want to send the invite.

We use a contact website within CVENT to collect names and basic info of people that want to be notified of our next events.  Works great for us - so much less email as they can just add themselves from a link on our regular website.
