Hi everyone,
Sue offered a great tip and one I would recommend as well!
I would also suggest setting this optional item up as a session since in this case it's an evening event. That way, you can send out session emails to only capture those who registered for it.
I'd also suggest submitting this feedback within the Ideas area of the community so our product team can also be aware.
Thank you!

That's close to what I ended up doing, but then I have to keep a separate list offline of who I already sent it to so that if I need to send it out again to new registrants, I don't duplicate the information. Whereas within the existing email options you can set it to send a certain number of days after registration, or to a group who have registered since a certain date.
Glad to know I'm not missing something easy that exists.

I don't know of a way to automate an email to those who choose an optional item, but when I need to email those registrants, I first create the email somewhere in the event. Then I pull up the list of those registered for the optional item. You can do that by doing an advanced Attendees List search and selecting the optional item under Agenda Items, but I find it's faster to just click on Optional Items under Registration menu in left margin and then click on the number in blue that indicates number of registrants…under the Registered column. That shows me a list of those registered for that optional item, and I mark the box in header to select all of them (or just individual boxes to left of the names of those I want to email). Then I click on Bulk Actions drop-down menu that's above the list of names, and choose the Send Email option. It then prompts me to locate the email I previously created and send it.
It's not the smoothest process but it's reasonably fast and usually all we need to do, though I'd love an automated process.

I have not found a easy way to do this.
My 'hack' is to create a custom contact field. I call it C-EMAIL1.
Run a report to find everyone who selected an optional item.
Export email address, first name and last name. Add a column to the excel report named C-EMAIL1.
Type whatever you want in that field. Could be SENDEMAIL. Save.
Import into your address book matching email, first and last name and include C-EMAIL1.
Create your email and use the advanced filter Custom Contact Field C-EMAIL1 = SENDEMAIL.
Would love to hear of an easier way.

Is there a way to create an email to send to individuals who selected certain optional items during the registration process? I see advanced filters as a way to provide more targeted audiences than the broad audiences, but can't find a way to set them by their response to the optional items. I am holding an optional evening event for attendees and want to send information about it just to those who selected the event during their registration.
