Happy Monday to all the members! Time to begin with our Huddle of the Week post!

We all know how important audience engagement is for the success of any event. Whether in-person or online, event organizers want attendees to pay attention and participate. In fact, more than 80% of marketing professionals believe that audience engagement is a key indicator of an event's success. Expert event planners and organizers understand that choosing the right audience engagement strategies can make or break an event.

Whether you're a new planner working on your first event or a seasoned professional looking for the latest tips, this list can help.

    • Understand your audience.
    • Determine which metrics you will use to measure engagement.
    • Incorporate the use of a mobile event app.
    • Invite skilled moderators to participate.
    • Incorporate interactive event technology.
    • Offer swag or special perks to attendees.
    • Utilize live-polling technology
    • Include a networking session in your event agenda.

    Question for you:

    • Which of the above tips works best for you?
    • Share an Engagement Strategy (which is not listed above) that works best for your event

Which of the above tips works best for you? We've incorporated all of the tips at some point in our events over the years. They are all quite effective, but ultimately I believe understanding your audience and what drives them is key to finding the right mix of engagement strategies that will have the most impact

Share an Engagement Strategy (which is not listed above) that works best for your event
Giving attendees an opportunity to share feedback in some manner is a great way to generate ideas but also lets them know that their input matters. We've used polling, surveys, and physical feedback stations (ex. boards set up with particular questions and attendees can leave responses on Post-It Notes, etc.)

Happy Friday to all the Celebrities!

    • Which of the above tips works best for you?
      • understand your audience (target audience, segmentation)
      • skilled moderators (we have one in particular that I just love)
      • utilize live polling (we do this as a requirement to offer CPE, and we ask questions that will help us understand the client/prospect's environment better, which gives us valid business reasons to connect with them to discuss their needs)
    • Share an Engagement Strategy (which is not listed above) that works best for your event
      • We are currently only doing webinars, although we occasionally do a virtual lunch and learn, where we allow everyone to be on camera and on mic so that they can interact and collaborate. However, in every event we do, FOLLOW UP is key. We (marketing) have been working closer with the sales team this year to ensure that all our hard work is paying off by having a solid sales team follow-up plan.

    • Which of the above tips works best for you?  At some point or another we've tried everything. Understanding your audience is most key, we find mobile apps help if the event warrants it (complex agenda or multiday. It's sometimes overkill for a simple thing), skills moderators, swag.
    • Share an Engagement Strategy (which is not listed above) that works best for your event  In addition to skilled moderators, we've found getting speakers some TedX style or specific coaching prior to sessions goes a long way towards significantly improving both the speaker as well as the audiences perception and engagement with the speaker.

    • Which of the above tips works best for you?
      • Understanding your audience - If you don't know your audience to start with, any engagement you try to use will not work
      • Use of a mobile app - not only is this convenient for the attendee but it also allows you to track engagement
      • Offer swag and perks - everyone loves freebies and giveaways This is a great incentive
    • Share an Engagement Strategy (which is not listed above) that works best for your event
      • Using post-event surveys is a great way not only to understand feelings about a particular event but understand your audience better as a whole. You can also incorporate questions that will help you improve in the future.

We've generated additional engagement by asking attendees to be a part of the content development. For an internal event that we held, we did a drawing giving folks the chance to collaborate with our keynote speaker before the conference and help that speaker during content development. It was a professional development "prize" and gave the winner exposure to an internal leader. The post event survey had so many comments about this and asked when we would be doing it again for other events.

Which of the above tips works best for you? We use many of the tips above, but understanding your audience is key. Live polling is also great for keeping your audience engaged.

Share an Engagement Strategy (which is not listed above) that works best for your event. Utilizing post event surveys is a great way to get more information and generate new ideas for events in the future.

I like offering branded swag or special perks to the attendees, they really enjoy this and a lot of people will take things back to their families or coworkers which is getting our name out there.

Attendees love free things or winning free things. I've used a lot of swag, random wheel spins for gift cards previously.

    • Which of the above tips works best for you? We typically offer swag in most of our events, and always include a networking session and also a networking social hour.
    • Share an Engagement Strategy (which is not listed above) that works best for your event - we always include team building or give back opportunity in most of our internal meetings. There is something about working together on a project with someone else out of your element.

    • Which of the above tips works best for you? Mobile app, event tech and swag always work!
    • Share an Engagement Strategy (which is not listed above) that works best for your event: We always have small rooms available for customer meeting suites which allows our attendees a chance to have 1:1 private meetings with their customers.
