I have read this resource article Allowing Registration Without Email Addresses, which seems like it might solve some issues for us, but I'm not able to publish a registration form without both source ID and email address in the identity confirmation area. Has anyone successfully used source ID as the main registration identifier? This is for an internal employee event--we already have all invitees' primary work emails and we are trying to prevent duplicates with email aliases.

We do not require an email address.  We use the source ID as the unique identifier which is our member number.  Some of our member spouses share an email address so using the email address as the unique identifier did not work for us.  We capture the email address during registration but it is not required.  If they do not enter one, it does not prevent them from registering.  With that said, I'm not sure what you are referring to by "identity confirmation area."

I think you just have to include the email address field in that widget... but you don't have to make it required.

I think Jill means the first registration screen of the primary registrant, which requires email address or Source ID.

Jill, your scenario is best suited to using an Invitation List, since you know exactly who is eligible to register and you already have the email address you want them to use.
