Meet Leigh

I may not be your typical events/communications Cvent user. I am an IT person with a degree in Computer Science with a minor in Electronics. I started out as a software developer and made my way to my current company about 12 years ago. When I started with NIC, I was a C# developer... but since I was techy & personable, they asked me to be the interpreter between our Events and our IT department. Our Events department had just implemented Cvent when I started at the company, so I began to work closely with events in configuring and setting up Cvent and was the Cvent Administrator. Cvent was working so well that we stopped using our homegrown events platform and switched solely to Cvent. Also, when I started with NIC, they had recently implemented Salesforce... and so I jumped into the Salesforce ecosystem and started learning the application and became the System Administrator.

You can find and connect with Leigh on LinkedIn here:  https://www.linkedin.com/in/leigh-anna-geraghty-5788363/

Leigh is also a member of our System Admins and Associations or Non-Profit Organizations User Groups.

@Kameron Kidd was able to have a chat with Leigh and ask her some questions.

Can you share a little about your current role at the company you work for?

I serve as the Senior Salesforce Administrator and Solutions Manager at National Investment Center for Seniors Housing & Care (NIC).  I am the Salesforce knowledge expert and oversee our data management and integrations. I hold four Salesforce certifications.

NIC, a 501(c)(3) organization, is dedicated to facilitating access and choice within the senior housing and care industry. Our mission is fulfilled through the provision of data, analytics, and networking opportunities that foster connections between investors and senior care providers. Annually, NIC hosts three significant events, drawing attendance ranging from 300 to 4,000 participants, depending on the specific conference. Since 2013, we have relied on Cvent for registration services, and currently utilize OnArrival for streamlined badge pickup processes.

Do you have a favorite event or venue that you've been to?

I attend Salesforce's Dreamforce conference annually, and it's always a great time with a lot of learning opportunities! I've seen speakers like Melinda French Gates, Barack and Michelle Obama, Tony Robbins, Jessica Alba, and will.i.am. Plus, there are cool musical performances by the Foo Fighters, U2, and Macklemore. They even have Monastic Monks for meditation sessions, which is pretty neat!

Do you have a favorite training that you think helped you succeed with Cvent technology?

The Prep Guides to the Certifications are wonderful and have great information - the Cvent Account Administrator prep guide is extremely helpful.

Are you Cvent certified, and if so, which certifications do you hold?

I have the Cvent Account Administrator Certification and the Cvent Virtual Events Certification.

I plan to take the Cvent Event Management Certification as well.

How have you helped others within your organization be successful with Cvent technology?

Following the pandemic and amidst a staff shortage of our registration manager position, I built out the events for a year and supported registration while continuing with my regular duties.

By integrating Cvent to Salesforce - it gives full visibility to attendees and event information to non-Cvent users.

What advice would you share for those who are just starting with Cvent?

Use the Cvent Community, Cvent Celebrity and the Cvent Academy - all great tools and resources and fun stuff too!!

What is your favorite Cvent feature and why?

I really like and use custom fields the most - especially for our integrations. I think the registration website builder is very simple to use and to create an event quickly that looks really nice. Oh - and OnArrival is awesome - especially so you can immediately see how many attendees have picked up their badges... and the reporting graphs of pick up times is really helpful to know when we need the busy times for badge pick up occur to make sure we are staffed properly.

We're hugely grateful to Leigh for her time and contributions to the Community. We're looking forward to seeing what you accomplish in 2024! As a token of appreciation, Leigh will receive a Cvent care package.
